Industrial Minerals track record
Some recent projects are outlined below:
(Click on the headings for more information)
Processing plant for Andalucita: S.A.
Bateman Engineering is nearing completion of a ZAR26 (US$3.5) million lumpsum turnkey project to establish a greenfields andalusite processing plant for Andalucita: S.A. at their site near Paita in Lima, Peru. The plant, a 40 t/h dense media separation plant (DMS) and associated equipment, has been pre-erected and factory tested before being transported to site where it is now being installed.
Thickening and clarification circuit for
Phase 2 of Uranium One project
Following the completion of a contract to supply the complete thickening circuit for Phase 1 of the Uranium One Africa project in South Africa, Bateman Engineering is providing the thickeners and clarifiers for Phase 2.
Upgraded flotation-circuit at BMA’s Gregory Coal Mine
Bateman Engineering N.V. has upgraded the flotation circuit of the coal-processing plant at the Gregory Crinum Coal Mine near Emerald, Queensland, Australia for the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) by replacing the existing conventional circuit with new flotation technology. BMA is Australia’s largest coal producer and a leader in the international coal industry.
Outstanding Safety Achievement for 2007
Bateman Engineering achieved outstanding safety results during 2007 with two major projects achieving more than 1 million man hours worked without a lost time injury (LTI) by the calendar year end, one project achieving more than 2 million man hours and the Moma Mineral Sands project recording nearly 7 million man hours free from lost time injuries.
The Moma mineral-sands processing facility in Mozambique
The heavy-minerals processing project at Moma in Mozambique for Kenmare Resources plc of Ireland is nearing completion. This project is being conducted under a US$265 million EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract by a joint venture between subsidiaries of Bateman Engineering and Multiplex Ltd of Australia. An integrated project team based in Bateman Engineering’s offices in Boksburg is handling the project.
Jetty-and-barge export facility for Moma mineral sands
The export facility at Kenmare Resources PLC’s Moma mineral-sands project in Mozambique, currently nearing completion by a 50/50 joint venture between Bateman Engineering and Multiplex Ltd, is a highly cost-effective solution to transporting product to the bulk carriers, given the topography of the sand shelf off the coast at Moma.
Safety Achievement for 2006
Bateman Engineering’s ongoing commitment to safety has yielded outstanding results over the past years. As of mid September 2006, approximately 2.5 million working hours had been achieved without a serious injury with the year end lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) being at 0.14 per 200,000 manhours worked. Bateman Engineering has also been recommended for OHSAS 18001 certification.
Providing infrastructure for the Moma mineral-sands project
Providing the infrastructure required to install and run a modern minerals-processing plant has been a critical component of the success of the Moma mineral-sands project in Mozambique, given the remote and undeveloped area in which it is located.
Complete thickening circuit for Uranium One Africa
In a R47 million contract, Bateman Engineering has supplied the complete thickening circuit for Uranium One Africa’s new uranium plant to be located next to the company’s existing Bonanza gold-mining operation in the Klerksdorp area of South Africa.
Flotation-circuit
upgrade at Gregory Coal
Bateman Engineering N.V. (BATEMAN) has been awarded a contract by
BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) to undertake an AU$24 million
upgrade of the coal-processing plants flotation circuit at the
Gregory Crinum Coal Mine, located in central Queensland, Australia.
Sishen
Expansion Project awarded to BATEMAN / Murray & Roberts JV
Kumba Resources Limited has awarded a contract to a joint venture
between BATEMAN and Murray & Roberts to upgrade Sishen Iron Ore
mine's production by 10M t/yr.
Aflease
uranium plant to utilise pressure leaching
BATEMAN has been contracted to carry out the metallurgical process
design for the new uranium plant for Aflease Gold and Uranium Resources
(previously Afrikander Lease Limited) to be located next to the company's
existing Bonanza gold-mining operation in the Klerksdorp area of South
Africa.
Moma
minerals sands on schedule
The US$220M Moma mineral-sands project in Mozambique is on schedule,
with the first sub contracts having been awarded by the BATEMAN /
MULTIPLEX joint venture.
BATEMAN's
test rig for processing industrial-minerals
The design and engineering of large-scale facilities to separate
the constituent minerals in complex ore bodies containing industrial
minerals cannot be reliably tackled without extensively testing, on
a pilot-plant scale, the effectiveness of a range of the most likely
processes.
Kenmare's
mineral-sands project at Moma
Kenmare Resources P.L.C., Ireland, has awarded the joint venture
between BATEMAN and Multiplex Ltd of Australia a contract to establish
a mineral-sands processing facility at Moma in the north-east of Mozambique.
Bankable
feasibility study for Tormin Zircon project
BATEMAN has been appointed the engineering partner on the proposed
Tormin Zircon project on South Africas West Coast, by the Australian-based
mineral-sands group, Mineral Commodities Limited, and the bankable
feasibility study (BFS) on the project has commenced.
The Tormin project, located approximately 400 km north of Cape Town,
is a high-grade, zircon rich resource which, when developed, could
position Mineral Commodities as a niche supplier to one of the fastest-growing
sectors of the international mineral-sands market.
Bankable
feasibility study for Corridor Sands
A bankable feasibility study (BFS) on the huge mineral-sands deposit
near Chibuto, 200 km north of Maputo, Mozambique, has been completed
for Corridor Sands Limitada.
Hillendale
heavy-minerals plant
A primary wet-treatment plant to process mineral
sands, designed by BATEMAN for Iscor Heavy Minerals (Pty) Ltd (now
Ticor South Africa), has been commissioned and is operating successfully
at Hillendale, close to Richards Bay in South Africa. BATEMAN, the
managing contractor on the project, was responsible for the engineering
design, project management and construction supervision, which were
carried out under a lump-sum contract. BATEMAN was also responsible
for the commissioning, which was done in terms of a reimbursable contract.
Heavy
minerals treatment plant for Iscor
Bateman Minerals and Industrial Limited has completed
the conceptual and detailed engineering of a 1 200 t/h primary wet
treatment plant for Iscor Heavy Minerals to be built at the Hillendale
site near Empangeni, RSA.
