Bateman Africa (Pty) Limited is a unique black-empowered project-management and marketing company which offers its services from inception through to construction. Bateman Africa focuses on the provision of innovative solutions to the natural-resources, power-generation, infrastructure and general industries and offers in-house know-how of materials handling, environmental control and toll treatment.
Bateman Africa combines world-class engineering and project-management skills with an innate knowledge of the South African engineering environment as well as considerable skills and competencies tailored to local conditions.
Bateman Africa (Pty) Ltd is 51 % owned by Black equity partners and 49 % owned by a Bateman Engineering N.V. subsidiary, Bateman Projects Limited. The other shareholders are ASCH Professional Services (Pty) Ltd (20 %), Chancellor House Holdings (Pty) Ltd (10 %), Iliso Consulting (Pty) Ltd and Technical Training Services (Pty) Ltd (11 %).
Bateman Africa has, by provisions in the Shareholders’ Agreement, unrestricted access to all the resources of its shareholders, in particular the global expertise and management systems of Bateman Projects Limited, which can be drawn upon when necessary to put the best team together for a project.

Supervision by the Board
The Board of Directors is the supreme authority charged with the ultimate and overall direction, supervision and management of the Company. It comprises of seven (7) directors of who 57% are Black and 43% are White
Management
Whilst the day-to-day affairs and activities of the Company and the management of the business of the Company vests in the Board, it may appoint sub-committees, as it deems fit, for purposes of managing the business of the Company in accordance with the articles of association of the Company.
Employment Equity
Bateman Africa complies with the requirements of the Employment Equity Act. A number of policies have been produced and implemented in compliance with the Employment Equity Act with the input of the created forums. These include, but are not limited to an Employment Equity Policy, Sexual Harassment Policy, Racial Harassment Policy and HIV/AIDS Policy.
Skills Development
Bateman Africa’s commitment to the development of historically disadvantaged persons is entrenched in its Shareholders’ Agreement. One of the key drivers of the company is to advance the technical and managerial skills of, in particular, historically disadvantaged persons in this sector.
Concerted efforts are therefore made to advance the knowledge, skills and experience of Bateman Africa’s human capital through training and development programmes.
Bateman Africa, through its shareholders, is participating in the pilot learner-ship programme in project management, coordinated under the Services SETA as part of the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) legislation. These learnerships provide the candidates with a structured learning programme that will provide them with the basic project-management knowledge and skills to enable them to plan, initiate and execute projects and work as project-team members.
Successful completion of the programme culminates in a national certificate, awarded in terms of the country's National Qualifications Framework (NQF), at the NQF 4 level.
