BATEMANs water treatment services
Bateman Water, a subsidiary of Bateman Project Holdings Limited (BATEMAN),
is well positioned to compete strongly in the water treatment markets
in Southern Africa and abroad. It was re-constituted recently when BATEMAN
acquired Bateman Water Treatment (Pty) Ltd from Bateman Industrial Corporation
Limited and merged its activities with the core business of its existing
subsidiary in the water treatment market, Aquafund (Pty) Ltd.
According to Dave Sevitz, Managing Director of the new company, entrusted
with the task of optimising the collective potential of these operations,
the first objective of the new company is to ensure that contracts and
services to existing clients are effectively maintained. Because
the two companies from which Bateman Water was formed bring their respective
capabilities with them, we are ideally placed to achieve this. The overall
objective of the merger, however, is to ensure that our enlarged client
base will benefit from the synergy and collective expertise which have
resulted in a broader scope of products, services and technologies,
says Sevitz.
Bateman Water provides a multi-disciplinary service to the water
and wastewater industries locally and internationally, explained
Sevitz. This comprises the design, supply, installation and commissioning
of domestic and industrial water and wastewater plants, the provision
of up-to-date technologies, the operation, maintenance and management
of water and wastewater treatment plants and the on-site training of
personnel. We cover the whole spectrum, from small plants to build,
operate and transfer (BOT) projects involving turnkey solutions,
from concept to delivery and subsequent operations of the plant.
The increasing demand for turnkey operations is well catered for. More
and more clients require contractors to build and operate or build,
own and operate water and wastewater treatment plants, enabling them
to concentrate on their core business. Bateman Water has a solid local
and international base of contracts and references from the two companies
from which it was formed. A project successfully completed abroad is
the 40M litre Netanya Sewerage Treatment Works in Israel, where Bateman
Water has an office handling regional enquiries and orders.
The first concession in RSA for the full operation and management of
plants was signed by the municipality of Tongaat in 1991. This was the
first contract awarded in South Africa in which the water and wastewater
plants and entire reticulation system are operated, maintained and managed
for and on behalf of a municipality. About 50 plants are
now also operated and often also maintained for clients in the mining
industry.
Bateman Water is actively strengthening its capabilities by entering
into strategic alliances with market leaders on a project by project
basis, explains Sevitz. It also has the backup of the BATEMAN
group internationally. The group can now offer clients a more comprehensive
service, as water treatment forms an integral part of many BATEMAN projects
where high quality water is essential for the process plants being supplied.
